2002-2005 Sauvignon Blanc wines from around the world (July 15, 2006 Issue)

In this issue you will find 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 Sauvignon Blanc wines from around the world.
When combining all the vintages by score and price, the 2004 vintage has three "Great Value" wines while the 2003 vintage has two. There are no "Great Value" wines in the 2002 nor 2005 vintages.
When comparing wines scoring 90 points or more, only 10% of the 2002 and 2005 vintage wines average over 90 points while the 2003 vintage has 9% and the 2004 vintage has 8%. In terms of price, all three vintages are close with an average price of $20 for the 2002 and 2003, $17 for the 2004 vintage while the 2005 averages $16 for a 90 point wine.
At the high end (for Sauvignon Blanc), the 2005 Mulderbosch, Sauvignon Blanc Stellenbosch averages 92 points and at $16 it is 57% of the average $28 price for a similar scoring wine earning a "Value" moniker. At $8, the 2004 Veramonte, Sauvignon Blanc Casablanca Valley averages 88 points and earns a 50% "Great Value" rating. For $7 there are three 87 point wines; 2003 Covey Run, Fumé Blanc Washington, 2004 Columbia Crest, Sauvignon Blanc Columbia Valley Two Vines and 2004 Snoqualmie, Sauvignon Blanc Columbia Valley, all earning a 48% "Great Value" QPR.
