Wine glass charms are small markers that tell guests which glass is theirs. Classic charms are metal hoops that clip around the stem; newer ones are silicone shapes that wrap the stem or grip the rim, suction cups that stick to the bowl, or pens that let you write a name on the glass. Our quick answer: ring or silicone charms for stemmed glasses, and suction markers or a glass pen for stemless glasses and mixed sets.
Below are five charms and markers, one of each type, with what each maker says about materials and fit.
How we chose
We don’t test products. Every material, count and fit claim below comes from the maker’s own product page or product data, checked in October 2026, and Amazon listings are not a source. We picked one strong option for each way of marking a glass, and only products the maker lists as current. Prices are maker list prices in US dollars. True Brands sells mainly to retailers and doesn’t show a consumer price, and the one big-retailer listing we could open was out of stock, so we leave those prices blank. None of the makers says whether its charms are dishwasher safe, so we don’t claim it either way. The full method is on how we rate wine and choose accessories.

Our picks
True Winery Pewter Wine Charms
Who it’s for: hosts who want the traditional look: a little hoop with a charm on every stem.
Specs (True Brands): set of six assorted wine-themed designs, among them a corkscrew, a barrel and a bunch of grapes, each finished with four purple glass beads. Made of stainless steel, pewter and glass. True suggests them for tasting events. The maker lists the item as active; Target’s listing, sold by True Brands, showed it out of stock when we checked in October 2026, and we found no consumer price we could verify.
Ring charms are the classic choice for stemmed glasses, and in our view metal ones look the most at home at a sit-down dinner. Six different icons are easy for guests to remember.
The trade-off: a hoop needs a stem, so these won’t work on tumblers. Availability at retailers may vary.

Fred Winer Dogs Drink Markers
Who it’s for: casual parties where a bit of fun helps guests remember their glass.
Specs (Fred & Friends): set of six dachshund-shaped markers, each a different color, made of soft, food-safe, 100% BPA-free silicone. Fred says the flexible design wraps around the stem and fits most stemmed drinkware, including wine glasses and Champagne flutes. $13 for six on Fred’s own store (October 2026).
Silicone wraps have no clasp to fiddle with, and color coding makes it easy to say “you’re the green dog.” Fred also makes the same idea in cats (Wine Lives) and bows (Tie One On), so you can mix sets for a bigger group. Our pick for silicone stem markers.
The trade-off: Fred describes them for stemmed drinkware and doesn’t mention stemless glasses. The maker doesn’t say how they handle the dishwasher.

TrueZoo Cheese, Please Drink Markers
Who it’s for: households with a mix of stemmed and stemless glasses who want one set that covers both.
Specs (True Brands): set of six different cheese-shaped markers, made from food-grade silicone. TrueZoo, a True Brands line, says they fit stemless and stemmed wine glasses. Listed as active on the maker’s site; no consumer price is shown there (October 2026).
This is the only charm-style pick whose maker says it fits stemless glasses as well as stems. In our view, that makes it the safest buy if your cupboard holds both kinds, and a cheese theme suits a wine-and-cheese night.
The trade-off: no verified price, and the maker doesn’t explain how they attach to a stemless glass, so check the packaging before a party.

Vacu Vin Glass Markers Party People
Who it’s for: big gatherings, and anyone who serves wine in stemless glasses or tumblers.
Specs (Vacu Vin): set of twelve different character markers that stick to any glass with a suction cup, which Vacu Vin says keeps them in place all night. The product page shows a warranty of at least five years. $9.99 for twelve on Vacu Vin’s US store (October 2026). Vacu Vin also sells a Glass Markers Classic set of eight colored markers at the same price, and says those attach to any smooth surface.
Twelve distinct characters cover a large party with one set, and Vacu Vin says the suction cup sticks to any glass, with or without a stem. We’d pick these for a party where the glasses don’t all match.
The trade-off: Vacu Vin doesn’t state the material, and a suction cup needs a smooth surface, so in our view textured or hammered glasses are a poor match.

Wine Glass Writer Metallic Pens
Who it’s for: hosts who’d rather write names than hand out charms, and anyone marking dozens of glasses at once.
Specs (IWA Wine Accessories): set of three pens in gold, silver and emerald green (part 7415). IWA, which makes the Wine Glass Writer line, says they write on any dry glass surface, including stemware and wine bottles, and on glazed ceramic; the proprietary ink is non-toxic, dries quickly and washes off with warm water and soap. $13 for three on IWA’s store (October 2026).
A pen works on every glass you own, never gets lost in the sink, and lets guests write their own names or doodles. In our view, it is the best value for a big party: three pens can mark far more glasses than any charm set. IWA also suggests using them to write a gift message on a bottle.
The trade-off: the glass must be dry before you write, and the mark needs washing off afterward. IWA doesn’t give a drying time on the page.

What to look for in wine glass charms
Ring, silicone, suction or pen
| Type | How it attaches | Works on | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ring charm | Metal hoop around the stem | Stemmed glasses | Classic look; small parts to keep track of |
| Silicone stem wrap | Stretches around the stem | Stemmed glasses and flutes | No clasp; soft and colorful |
| Silicone or rim marker | Grips the glass (varies by design) | Some fit stemless too: check the maker | Read the fit claim before buying |
| Suction cup | Sticks to the bowl | Any smooth glass | Needs a smooth, dry surface |
| Glass pen | Ink written on the glass | Any dry glass | Washes off; nothing to lose |
Match the charm to your glasses. If you serve in stemless glasses, skip hoops and stem wraps. Outdoors with plastic glasses, such as the ones in our best plastic wine glasses guide, suction markers or a pen are the simplest.
Materials
Makers in this guide describe three main materials: metal (True’s stainless steel and pewter), silicone (Fred says food-safe and BPA-free, TrueZoo says food-grade), and ink (IWA says non-toxic). We report these as each maker states them and make no safety claim of our own. Charms sit on the outside of the glass, but in our view it’s still sensible to keep them on the stem or the lower bowl, away from the rim you drink from.
Dishwasher and care
None of the five makers says whether its charms or markers can go in the dishwasher. Our advice: take charms off before the glasses go in, rinse them by hand and keep them in a small box or bag with your wine tools. For pen marks, IWA says warm water and soap removes the ink.
Party use
Count one charm per guest, plus two or three spares for glasses that get refilled or swapped. Sets with clearly different designs (twelve characters, six cheeses, six colors) are easier to remember than near-identical ones. For hosting tips beyond the glasses, see our guide to throwing a wine tasting party.
As a gift
Charms make a small add-on to a bottle or a set of glasses. For bigger presents, our best wine gift set guide covers tool kits, glass sets and preservers.

Frequently asked questions
Do wine glass charms work on stemless glasses?
Ring and stem-wrap charms need a stem. For stemless glasses, use suction-cup markers such as Vacu Vin's, silicone markers the maker says fit stemless glasses, or a glass-marker pen.
Are wine glass charms dishwasher safe?
None of the makers in this guide says whether its charms are dishwasher safe. In our view, take charms off before washing and wash them by hand, which also stops them getting lost in the rack.
Does glass marker pen ink wash off?
IWA, which makes Wine Glass Writer pens, says the ink dries quickly and washes off with warm water and soap. It says the pens work on any dry glass surface and on glazed ceramic.
How many wine charms do I need for a party?
One per guest, plus a few spares. In our view, a set of 12 suits a big party, and mixing two sets of six works if each design is clearly different.
