Best Moscato: 4 Critic-Rated Value Bottles
Four Moscato picks, from Moscato d'Asti to a sweet red and a supermarket bottle, with critic scores and US prices checked in October 2026.
By Wine Blue Book editorial teamUpdated 7 min read

The best Moscato for your money, on current critic scores, is Saracco Moscato d’Asti 2025: Wine Enthusiast gave it 95 points, and it sells for about $17 to $21. If you want to spend less, Barefoot White Moscato scored 87 points from Tastings.com at about $6 to $9, and Quady Red Electra 2024 is the pick for a sweet red Moscato. Below are four bottles that passed our value test, plus a Costco option, with dated prices and what each is like.
How we picked
We don’t taste the wines ourselves. Every pick has a published professional score for the vintage we name and a US shelf price that we checked at two or more retailers in October 2026. The verdict follows our Blue Book Value method:
| Critic score | Great Value at | Good Value at |
|---|---|---|
| 93 and above | $30 or less | $45 or less |
| 90 to 92 | $20 or less | $30 or less |
| 85 to 87 | $10 or less | $14 or less |
Three scores come from Wine Enthusiast, which says its reviewers taste every wine blind, and one from Tastings.com, the review site of the Beverage Testing Institute. For each wine it is the only professional score we could confirm on the publication’s own website, so each verdict rests on that one score. Some retailers show scores from other critics; we didn’t use them unless we could open the original review.
Moscato is the Italian name for Muscat, a family of very aromatic grapes, and it comes in several styles: gently fizzy Moscato d’Asti from Piedmont, fully sparkling Asti, and still or lightly fizzy Moscato from California and elsewhere.
The best Moscato at a glance
| Wine | Style | Critic score | Alcohol | Typical price (Oct 2026) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Saracco Moscato d’Asti 2025 | Gently fizzy, sweet | 95, Wine Enthusiast | 6% | about $17–$21 | Great Value |
| Quady Red Electra Moscato 2024 (California) | Sweet red | 92, Wine Enthusiast | 5.5% | about $13–$16 | Great Value |
| G.D. Vajra Moscato d’Asti 2025 | Gently fizzy, sweet | 91, Wine Enthusiast | 5% | about $16–$21 | Great Value |
| Barefoot White Moscato NV (California) | Sweet white | 87, Tastings.com | 9% | about $6–$9 | Great Value |
NV means non-vintage, a blend that isn’t tied to a single harvest year.
Best Moscato d’Asti
Saracco Moscato d’Asti 2025
- Score: 95 points, Wine Enthusiast (May 2026 issue), an Editors’ Choice.
- Price: about $17 to $21, checked October 2026 ($16.95 at BuyWinesOnline and $20.95 at Wine On Sale, both for the 2025; each showed only eight bottles left).
- Verdict: Great Value.
Reviewer Jeff Porter picked out white peach, fresh mint, jasmine and wild thyme, then ripe nectarine and balanced sweetness lifted by lively acidity (the fresh tang that keeps a sweet wine from tasting syrupy). Both stores list it at 6% alcohol. Our pick for the best Moscato: it has the highest score we found, at well under our $30 limit for 93-plus points. The reviewer suggests it with spicy Vietnamese spring rolls or a peach tart, and we’d follow that advice.
G.D. Vajra Moscato d’Asti 2025
- Score: 91 points, Wine Enthusiast (issue dated May 2, 2026), a Best Buy.
- Price: about $16 to $21, checked October 2026 ($15.94 at Saratoga Wine, $16.95 at BuyWinesOnline and $20.95 at Wine On Sale, all listed as the 2025).
- Verdict: Great Value.
Jeff Porter describes jasmine, lime blossom and Fuji apple aromas, with soft fruit, crisp apple and ripe peach on the palate, and calls it a quieter, gentler style. It is 5% alcohol. In our view it suits anyone who wants a quieter style than the Saracco, going by the two reviews. Serve it with fruit salad, brunch or a lightly spicy takeout night.
Best red Moscato
Quady Red Electra Moscato 2024
- Score: 92 points, Wine Enthusiast (October 2026 issue), a Best Buy.
- Price: about $13 to $16, checked October 2026 ($12.99 at Marketview Liquor, and $15.95 regular price at both BuyWinesOnline and Wine On Sale, all for the 2024).
- Verdict: Great Value.
Quady is a California producer, and Red Electra is its red Moscato. Reviewer Tonya Pitts calls it refreshing and decadent, with red berries, baking spices and dried flowers and a silky finish, and notes that it is sweet without being sugary. At 5.5% alcohol it is as light as a Moscato d’Asti. Our pick for anyone who likes sweet reds. We’d chill it and serve it with a berry tart or a cheese plate with fresh fruit.
Best cheap Moscato
Barefoot White Moscato NV
- Score: 87 points, Tastings.com (reviewed February 2024), with a Silver Medal and a Best Buy label.
- Price: about $6 to $9, checked October 2026 ($6.49 at Marketview Liquor and $8.99 regular price at ShopSK).
- Verdict: Great Value.
In our view this is one of the easiest Moscatos to find in a US supermarket, and the score says it is a sound one. Tastings.com’s reviewer found peach, green apple, white flowers and candied lemon, called it sweet but light on its feet, and recorded 9% alcohol with 7.2% residual sugar (the grape sugar left in the finished wine). The review suggests barbecue chicken, pad thai or chicken fajitas. Because it is non-vintage, the review is from 2024 and the blend can shift between bottlings, so treat the score as a guide.
For Costco shoppers
Costco’s Kirkland Signature Moscato d’Asti DOCG 2025 scored 92 points from Tastings.com (reviewed March 2026), at about $7, the Costco price in that review. It is only 5% alcohol, and the reviewer describes lilies, peach and lime with soft acidity. Because it is sold only at Costco, we use the store’s own price, as our method allows for store guides. See our best Costco wine guide for the full list.
Which Moscato for which occasion
Our suggestions, based on the styles and pairings in the reviews above:
| Occasion | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Dessert with fruit tart or peaches | Saracco Moscato d’Asti 2025 | Highest score; the reviewer suggests a peach tart |
| Brunch or a light aperitif | G.D. Vajra Moscato d’Asti 2025 | Gentle, floral and only 5% alcohol |
| Sweet red for a cheese plate | Quady Red Electra 2024 | Red berries and spice, still light at 5.5% |
| Barbecue, takeout, big group | Barefoot White Moscato NV | Under $10, with food pairings from the review |
| A Costco run | Kirkland Signature Moscato d’Asti 2025 | 92 points at about $7 |
What to look for in a good Moscato
If our picks aren’t in your store, these checks narrow the shelf:
- “Moscato d’Asti DOCG” for the classic style. It is the gently fizzy, low-alcohol style from Piedmont; three of the five bottles on this page are Moscato d’Asti.
- Check the alcohol. The Moscato d’Asti picks here are 5% to 6%; Barefoot’s California Moscato is 9%. Lower alcohol usually means a lighter, sweeter, more delicate wine.
- Buy a recent vintage. In our view Moscato d’Asti is at its best young, when the fruit is fresh. Scores apply to one vintage, so match the year.
- Compare prices. The Saracco cost about $17 at one store and about $21 at another in our October check.
- Named scores only. A shelf tag that says “92 points” without a publication and vintage tells you little.
Other well-reviewed Moscatos we found but couldn’t price at two US stores for the reviewed vintage include Coppo’s 2025 Moncalvina (91 points from Wine Enthusiast) and Sand Point’s 2024 California Moscato (91 points). They may be worth a look if your store has the right year. For more bottles that pass the same test, see our best wine under $20 list.
How to find more good-value wine
Check the vintage against the score, compare an online shop with your supermarket or liquor store, and look for the publication’s name. Our guide to wine ratings explains what the numbers mean. We recheck the prices on this page at least every three months and replace picks that sell out or move past their threshold.
