The best wine dispenser depends on what you drink. If you open good corked bottles and want a single glass without committing to the rest, a needle system like the Coravin Timeless Three+ pours without pulling the cork. For everyday bottles with any closure, the Coravin Pivot+ pours by the glass for less, whatever the closure. Sparkling wine needs its own pressurized stopper, and if you drink box wine, a countertop dispenser like the Boxxle puts the tap at glass height. Below are four wine dispensers compared on what their makers publish.
How we chose
We don’t test products. Every spec and every freshness claim on this page comes from the maker’s own product pages, opened in October 2026 and recorded in our research file; when a figure is a claim (such as “fresh for four weeks”), we say it’s the maker’s. We looked for current products sold widely in the US that pour wine and protect what’s left: by-the-glass systems, sparkling systems and box-wine dispensers. Price bands come from the makers’ own US stores in October 2026, never Amazon. Our full method is on how we rate wine and accessories.
We also looked at countertop dispensing stations, the multi-bottle machines that pour preset measures. Napa Technology’s residential WineStation Pristine Plus lists argon preservation for up to 60 days, but the maker’s store showed it sold out at $5,500 in October 2026, and a US retailer listed it as discontinued. Vinotemp’s dispenser collection showed only a sold-out pack of nitrogen cartridges. We couldn’t verify a current countertop station that is easy to buy in the US, so none made the list.
Wine dispensers compared
| Wine dispenser | Best for | How it keeps wine (maker) | Freshness claim (maker) | Price band (Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coravin Timeless Three+ | Natural-cork bottles | Needle through the cork, argon replaces the wine | Wine keeps aging “even years later” | Around $280 |
| Coravin Pivot+ | Any still wine closure | Pivot Stopper, argon replaces the wine | Up to 4 weeks | Around $200 |
| Coravin Sparkling | Champagne, Prosecco, Cava | Sealed stopper charged with CO2 | At least 4 weeks | Around $400 |
| Boxxle | Bag-in-box wine | Raises and compresses the bag as it empties | Over a month | About $99–$129 |
The best wine dispensers
Coravin Timeless Three+
Who it’s for: people with a few special bottles who want to taste a glass now and save the rest, or compare two wines side by side without opening both.
Key specs (Coravin):
- An ultra-thin needle passes through the cork; wine flows out while 100% pure argon flows in, so the bottle is never opened.
- Designed for natural cork. Coravin says it won’t reseal synthetic corks and doesn’t work with glass closures; screw-capped bottles need the included Timeless Screw Caps.
- Up to about 15 glasses (150 ml each) per argon capsule.
- The kit includes an aerator (Coravin claims the equivalent of up to 90 minutes of decanting), two screw caps, two argon capsules, a needle-clearing tool and a bottle sleeve.
- One-year warranty and a 30-day risk-free trial.
The trade-off: you pay for argon capsules as you go, and the system is fussier than a stopper: it suits wines you want to keep for a long time, not a Tuesday bottle you’ll finish by Friday. Coravin’s claim that the rest of the bottle keeps aging naturally “even years later” is the maker’s, not an independent finding.
It sold for about $280 on Coravin’s site in October 2026. We’d choose it only if you regularly drink one glass from bottles worth protecting. Check the Coravin Timeless Three+ on Amazon.
Coravin Pivot+
Who it’s for: everyday drinkers who open a bottle and want it to last through the next few weeks of single glasses.
Key specs (Coravin):
- No needle. You open the bottle, push in a Pivot Stopper and click the Pivot into it to pour; argon replaces the poured wine.
- Works with any still wine closure, because the stopper replaces it.
- Coravin says it keeps wine fresh for up to four weeks.
- Up to about 20 glasses (150 ml) per capsule.
- Includes a Pivot Aerator, two stoppers, two argon capsules and a bottle sleeve; one-year warranty.
The trade-off: the bottle is opened, so it’s not a long-term cellar tool like the Timeless. Extra stoppers ($29.95 for six) and argon capsules (from $45.95) add to the running cost, per Coravin’s October 2026 prices.
In our view this is the right Coravin for most homes: about $200 on Coravin’s site in October 2026, and no worrying about cork types. Check the Coravin Pivot+ on Amazon.
Coravin Sparkling
Who it’s for: anyone who opens Champagne, Prosecco or Cava and rarely finishes the bottle the same night.
Key specs (Coravin):
- Pour a glass, seal the bottle with the Sparkling Stopper, then press the Sparkling Charger on top to add CO2. A pressure indicator turns from green to red and back to green when the bottle is charged.
- Fits any sparkling wine bottle, Coravin says, including Champagne, Prosecco and Cava.
- Coravin claims it keeps sparkling wine fresh for at least four weeks.
- Each CO2 capsule preserves up to seven standard 750 ml bottles, though Coravin notes capsule life varies with use.
- One-year warranty and a 30-day risk-free trial.
The trade-off: at about $400 on Coravin’s site in October 2026, it costs far more than a simple Champagne stopper. It earns its price only if leftover bubbly is a regular problem in your house.

Boxxle Box Wine Dispenser
Who it’s for: box wine drinkers who want the tap above the glass instead of at the bottom edge of a cardboard box, and a dispenser that looks at home on a counter.
Key specs (Boxxle):
- You take the bag out of the box and place it in the Boxxle, which raises it so the spigot sits above your glass and automatically compresses the bag as it empties.
- Made of stainless steel and high-grade ABS plastic.
- Boxxle says box wine stays fresh “for over a month” in it.
- Sold in stainless, black, red and white finishes, plus a Bota-branded version.
The trade-off: Boxxle’s pages don’t list a capacity, dimensions or whether it is dishwasher safe, so check that your favorite box’s bag fits and that you have counter height for it. Boxxle’s pages don’t mention cooling.
Boxxle listed its versions from about $99 to $129 in October 2026, and its own shop links to Amazon to buy. Check the Boxxle on Amazon.
What to look for in a wine dispenser
How it protects the wine
Once a bottle is open, air starts to change the wine (oxidation). The dispensers here limit that contact in three ways:
- Argon: an inert gas that fills the space the wine leaves behind. Coravin’s Timeless and Pivot both use it.
- CO2 pressure: for sparkling wine, where the goal is to keep the bubbles in as well as the air out.
- A collapsing bag: box wine comes in a bag that shrinks as you pour, so little air gets in to begin with. A box-wine dispenser just makes it easier to pour.
Every freshness figure on this page is a maker’s claim. Our guide to how long wine lasts after opening explains what changes in an open bottle and how to tell when it’s past its best.
Closures and bottle types
Check what you actually drink. Needle systems need natural cork. Screw caps need an adapter, and synthetic corks are a no for Coravin’s Timeless. Sparkling wine needs a pressurized stopper. A box-wine dispenser only takes bag-in-box wine.
Running costs
By-the-glass systems need capsules: Coravin rates its argon capsules at about 15 glasses (Timeless) or 20 glasses (Pivot) each. If you pour a glass every night, those refills add up. A box-wine dispenser has no running cost beyond the wine.
Capacity
Most home systems work on one bottle at a time, so “capacity” is really how many glasses each gas capsule pours. Countertop stations that hold several bottles at serving temperature exist, but the ones we checked were sold out or discontinued in October 2026.
Tip: If you only want to stretch a bottle by a day or two, a stopper or vacuum pump may be all you need.

Frequently asked questions
How does a wine dispenser keep wine fresh?
Most home dispensers stop air from reaching the wine. Coravin's still-wine systems replace each pour with argon gas, its sparkling system adds CO2 under a sealed stopper, and a box-wine dispenser simply pours from the bag, which collapses as it empties.
How long does wine last in a wine dispenser?
It depends on the system, and the figures are the makers' claims. Coravin says Pivot+ keeps still wine fresh up to four weeks and Coravin Sparkling keeps bubbly at least four weeks; Boxxle says box wine stays fresh for over a month in its dispenser.
Does Coravin work with screw caps and synthetic corks?
Timeless systems are made for natural cork. Coravin says they need its Screw Cap accessory for screw-capped bottles and won't reseal synthetic corks. Pivot+ works with any still wine closure because you open the bottle and fit a Pivot Stopper.
Is a wine dispenser the same as a wine preserver?
They overlap. A preserver such as a vacuum pump or stopper only protects the open bottle; a dispenser also pours, often a glass at a time. Coravin's systems do both.
